Fraser Health is moving forward with the design and pre-construction phase for a new energy centre at Delta Hospital, aimed at enhancing power systems and supporting future healthcare projects.
DELTA, B.C. โ Fraser Health has announced that design and pre-construction activities are currently underway for a new energy centre at Delta Hospital, with a budget of $24.4 million. This new facility, known as the Delta Hospital Energy Centre Upgrade Project, aims to strengthen the hospital's power systems and electrical capacity to meet both current needs and future expansions, including the Beedie Long-Term Care Centre and the installation of an MRI at the hospital site.According to a recent release, energy centres are critical installations that house various essential equipment, including generators, transformers, and switchgears. These facilities play a pivotal role in ensuring that hospital campuses remain operational during emergencies such as power outages, floods, and earthquakes.
The construction phase for the energy centre is scheduled to commence in the summer of 2027, with an anticipated completion date in the spring of 2028. This development is part of a broader initiative to enhance health services in the Delta community, following other significant investments.
Recently, the South Delta After-Hours Urgent and Primary Care Centre was opened on Tsawwassen First Nation treaty lands. Additionally, work is currently in progress to install an MRI and to construct a new, dedicated space for the hospital's endoscopy program. Both of these projects are fully funded by the Delta Hospital and Community Health Foundation, indicating a strong commitment to improving healthcare infrastructure in the region.
The Delta Hospital Energy Centre Upgrade Project represents a significant step towards modernizing the hospitalโs capabilities and ensuring it can effectively serve the community's health needs for years to come. As the project moves forward, it highlights the ongoing focus on enhancing medical facilities and services within British Columbia, particularly in response to the growing demands on healthcare systems.
Overall, the new energy centre is expected to play a vital role in supporting Delta Hospital's operations and future healthcare initiatives, ensuring that both current and future patients receive the care they require in a safe and reliable environment.
