PCL Construction Marks Progress on Heavy Equipment Labs at Olds College

PCL Construction has achieved a significant milestone at Olds College with the partial turnover of heavy equipment labs, which are set to enhance training for students in the upcoming fall semester.

OLDS, ALTA. – PCL Construction has reached a notable milestone at the Olds College of Agriculture and Technology with the recent partial turnover of its heavy equipment labs. The company announced that Heavy Equipment Laboratories 3 and 4 are progressing towards being ready to welcome students this fall. These labs are part of a substantial 40,000-square-foot training facility that features two expansive work bays equipped with seven-ton rolling cranes, a specialized welding area, and an array of tools, compressed air systems, and safety equipment aimed at providing hands-on training for students entering the industry.
In addition to the heavy equipment labs, PCL is involved in the broader transformation of the W.J. Elliott Building at the college. The renovation and expansion of the trades building commenced in May 2025, with a total project value of $63 million. This initiative is set to enhance the educational infrastructure by adding over 440 seats dedicated to trades programming, along with 100 seats for dual-credit trades programs. The upgrades aim to modernize the existing space while incorporating state-of-the-art equipment and technology, as highlighted in a release from the Alberta government.
Upon completion, expected in 2027, these advancements will not only improve the training facilities but also align educational offerings with current industry standards. The commitment to enhancing the trades education environment is a significant step for Olds College, which serves as a vital resource for students pursuing careers in the trades.
