Bids Submitted for $200M-$499M Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project

Bowmanville Health Partners and PCL Partnerships have submitted bids for the Lakeridge Health – Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project, which is set to expand the facility significantly.

In Bowmanville, Ontario, the Request for Proposals (RFP) phase has officially concluded, paving the way for two competing companies to submit their bids for the Lakeridge Health – Bowmanville Hospital Redevelopment Project. This significant initiative, which falls under the Design-Build-Finance model, is estimated to range between $200 million and $499 million.
The shortlisted firms, Bowmanville Health Partners and PCL Partnerships, were invited to respond to the RFP in September 2025 and successfully submitted their proposals by the deadline on June 23, 2026. Following the bid submission, Infrastructure Ontario, in collaboration with Lakeridge Health, will undertake a thorough evaluation of the proposals over the upcoming months. The announcement of the successful proponent is anticipated in the fall.
This redevelopment project is poised to more than double the current size of the Bowmanville Hospital. The expansion will feature a patient-centered design, which includes private rooms and specialized bariatric rooms tailored to meet diverse patient needs. A key highlight of the project is the introduction of a rooftop helipad, enhancing the hospital's ability to provide critical care.
Additionally, the project will support Level 3 Critical Care capacity, the highest level of medical care available for critically ill or injured patients. The development will also incorporate an ambulatory care center and a dedicated haemodialysis center, further expanding the hospital's service offerings.
The project, being delivered through a Design-Build-Finance approach, represents a significant investment in the healthcare infrastructure of the region. With the RFP stage now closed, all eyes will be on the evaluation process, as stakeholders await the announcement of the chosen contractor who will bring this ambitious vision to fruition.
