Fusion Rise Inc. Launches Project-to-Career Initiative to Foster Skilled Trades

Fusion Rise Inc. has unveiled the Project-to-Career Initiative aimed at connecting renovation projects with skilled trade opportunities, inviting various stakeholders across British Columbia to participate.

In Victoria, Fusion Rise Inc., a registered charity in Canada, has announced the launch of its innovative Project-to-Career Initiative. This program is specifically designed to transform renovation, repair, maintenance, and construction projects into viable opportunities for individuals seeking careers in the skilled trades. According to an official release, the initiative has already identified more than 10 residential projects that are currently under review, and two local contractors have expressed their interest in supporting this endeavor.
The initiative operates under the guiding principle of "You Bring the Project. We Build the Workforce." It invites a wide array of participants, including homeowners, landlords, property managers, stratas, housing providers, businesses, developers, and community organizations throughout British Columbia, to submit projects that meet eligibility criteria. Once submitted, Fusion Rise will evaluate these projects and coordinate opportunities based on several factors such as location, trade requirements, and timing.
Dr. Oneil Randal, the founder and executive director of Fusion Rise, commented on the initial responses to the initiative, stating, "The early response shows us there is interest on both sides of this model." He emphasized the mutual benefits of the program: property owners have pending projects that require completion, contractors are in need of a more robust pipeline of skilled workers, and individuals entering the trades are looking for hands-on experience.
The types of eligible projects encompass a range of activities including property maintenance, home improvements, renovations, repairs, and site services. Dr. Randal elaborated on the initiative's goals, saying, "We want a participant’s first project to become more than work experience. We want it to become a reference, a connection to an employer, a pathway into an apprenticeship, and ultimately, the beginning of a career."
Fusion Rise Inc. is also reaching out to contractors, employers, skilled tradespeople, mentors, and community partners who are interested in supporting the participants in this initiative. Those wishing to submit a project proposal can do so by visiting fusionrisegroup.com/contracting/#quote.
The organization collaborates closely with its affiliated nonprofit social enterprise, Fusion Rise Contracting Society, which is a BC Housing licensed residential builder and developer. This partnership aims to bridge the gap between workforce development and practical construction experience, ultimately creating sustainable career pathways for participants in the skilled trades.
