GWL Realty Advisors, QuadReal Property Group, and Colliers Honored for Accessibility Leadership

GWL Realty Advisors, QuadReal Property Group, and Colliers have been recognized for their commitment to advancing accessibility in buildings through the Rick Hansen Foundation's Building Without Barriers Challenge.

RICHMOND, B.C. – In a significant recognition of their efforts in promoting accessibility, GWL Realty Advisors, QuadReal Property Group, and Colliers have been awarded honors by the Rick Hansen Foundation as part of the 2025–2026 Building Without Barriers Challenge. This initiative seeks to unite organizations that are dedicated to enhancing accessibility in the buildings they own or manage, with support from BOMA Canada, according to a recent announcement.
The Building Without Barriers Challenge utilizes the Rick Hansen Foundation Accessibility Certification™ (RHFAC) as a framework for organizations to assess building accessibility, pinpoint barriers, and identify opportunities for enhancement. This certification process takes into account the experiences of individuals with mobility, vision and hearing disabilities, as well as those with neurodiversity.
The awards were presented during the national BOMEX conference, celebrating accomplishments across four distinct categories: commitment, innovation, improvement, and the promotion of an accessibility culture. The awards are detailed as follows:
- **Commitment Award**: GWL Realty Advisors and QuadReal Property Group received this accolade for their efforts in advancing accessibility across their property portfolios, as demonstrated by their use of the RHFAC rating system.
- **Innovation Award**: QuadReal Property Group's Jamieson Place was recognized for its innovative strategies in promoting accessibility, achieving the highest score for innovation in its RHFAC rating.
- **Most Improved Award**: Colliers was honored for Pender Place 2, which showed the most significant improvement in accessibility among buildings previously rated by RHFAC.
- **Culture of Accessibility Award**: GWL Realty Advisors was acknowledged for their commitment to enhancing accessibility knowledge and capacity, having trained the highest number of employees through RHFAC educational programs.
Amanda Basi, the senior director of programs at the Rick Hansen Foundation, emphasized the importance of sustained commitment and innovative thinking in creating a more accessible built environment. She stated, "Creating a more accessible built environment requires sustained commitment, measurable progress, innovative thinking and people with the knowledge and tools to put accessibility into practice. These award recipients demonstrate the different ways organizations can advance accessibility and help create buildings that work better for everyone."
