Moose Jaw Overpass Project Nears Completion with Enhanced Safety Features

The Highway 2 overpass project in Moose Jaw, estimated at $35 million, is nearing completion, promising improved traffic flow and safety.
MOOSE JAW, SASK. — The completion of the Highway 2 overpass project over Highway 1, which has an estimated budget of $35 million, is on the horizon, as announced by Highways Minister Kim Gartner. This significant infrastructure project has involved the demolition of two aging bridges, each about 60 years old, that previously had a clearance height of only 4.5 metres. The new overpass design not only replaces these structures but also transforms the former cloverleaf interchange into a more efficient diamond interchange. This redesign is anticipated to enhance traffic flow, reduce maintenance needs, and improve overall safety for drivers navigating the intersection.As of now, the project is in its final stages, with remaining work including final paving, fine grading, and site restoration. Completion is targeted for mid-October, at which point normal traffic operations will resume, and the new overpass will provide a clearance height of 5.3 metres.
In addition to the overpass project, several other provincial highway initiatives are underway in the region. One such project is the Highway 2 project north of Assiniboia, which carries an estimated cost of $13 million. This initiative will involve resurfacing over 41 kilometres of roadway and installing 12 culverts. It is expected to be completed this fall.
Another significant project is taking place on Highway 13 in the Ogema area, with an estimated budget of $11.5 million. This project entails repaving more than 25 kilometres of highway, including access roads into Pangman and Ogema. Gravel crushing operations for this project commenced in early July, with roadwork following later that month. Completion is anticipated by late fall.
Lastly, an investment of approximately $3.4 million is dedicated to pavement preservation work on Highway 1, stretching from east of Moose Jaw to Regina. A seal coat was applied in May, and micro-surfacing efforts are currently in progress, with expectations for completion this month.
The Highway 2 overpass project represents a crucial step in improving infrastructure in the Moose Jaw area, aligning with broader efforts to enhance transportation safety and efficiency across the province.
