Newmarket Introduces Fees for Property Tax Services

The Town of Newmarket has updated its user fees for property tax services, including statements, tax certificates, and various administrative tasks.

The Town of Newmarket has implemented a set of user fees associated with obtaining property tax-related documents. Residents can now request a current Statement of Account, Receipt, or Tax Bill electronically via email or through standard mail. These documents are often needed by financial institutions during mortgage renewals or refinancing processes. It is important to note that there is a fee associated with ordering these documents.
For those looking to receive their statements through email, a request form must be completed. Alternatively, residents can request their statements by phone at 905-895-5193, available from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The introduction of these fees is part of the town's efforts to streamline administrative processes while ensuring that residents are informed about the costs involved.
In addition to general statements, residents who are moving will need to obtain a Property Tax Certificate, which is essential for their lawyers. To facilitate this, lawyers can fill out a Tax Certificate Request Form to secure the necessary documentation.
The user fees for various services are as follows: a Tax Certificate costs $92.76, with an expedited version available for $111.46. A Statement of Tax Account is priced at $22.29, while a Tax Bill Reprint is $27.87, plus HST. Other fees include $16.72 for a Tax Receipt and $33.44 for a New Ownership Fee per account. Additionally, a fee of $44.58 applies for a New Account or Roll Number, and returned payments incur a charge of $56.57.
Residents should also be aware of fees related to administrative tasks, such as $33.44 for post-dated cheque retrieval or date changes, and $56.57 for payment error corrections. Overdue notices are billed at $7.14 per instance, capped at four times per year. Other administrative fees include a 16% charge of the invoice amount for additions to the tax account for collection, as well as $50.91 per hour for a detailed analysis of the Property Tax Account.
These updates reflect the Town of Newmarket's ongoing commitment to transparency and efficiency in its taxation processes, ensuring that residents are well-informed about the associated costs.
