Toronto Celebrates Canada Day with Free Activities and Fireworks

Toronto invites everyone to celebrate Canada Day on July 1 with a variety of free activities across the city, culminating in fireworks displays at multiple locations.

On June 26, 2026, the City of Toronto announced an invitation to residents and visitors to join in the Canada Day festivities on Wednesday, July 1. The day promises a range of free, family-friendly programming designed to engage the community and highlight local businesses. Activities will take place in parks, public squares, and at Toronto History Museums, providing opportunities to support local restaurants, shops, and neighborhood celebrations.
Nathan Phillips Square will be a hub of activity, featuring the City’s Soccer for All program, which aims to increase access to inclusive soccer programming across Toronto. Attendees will have the chance to showcase their soccer skills on mini pitches. The square will also host interactive FIFA World Cup 2026™ activations, along with live performances and broadcasts of the Round of 32 games at 4 p.m. and 8 p.m.
The Canada Day celebrations will kick off with various events across the city. At Nathan Phillips Square, from noon to 6 p.m., there will be live music, dance performances, a citizenship ceremony, activities for children, and soccer-related fun. Meanwhile, Thomson Memorial Park will host a family-friendly festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m., featuring music, face painting, entertainment, and a pancake breakfast available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Amesbury Park will offer a full day of community-led programming, complete with food vendors and entertainment from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., culminating in a fireworks display. Stan Wadlow Park will continue its long-standing Canada Day tradition with celebrations from 11 a.m. to 10 p.m., featuring live performances and community booths. Mel Lastman Square will also be buzzing with programming from noon to 10 p.m., including a kids’ zone, vendor fair, and fireworks organized in collaboration with the Yonge North York BIA.
Select Toronto History Museums will open their doors on July 1, offering free admission and special Canada Day programming from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Participating museums include the Scarborough Museum, Gibson House Museum, Montgomery’s Inn, and Mackenzie House. The Spadina Museum will offer a unique program, “Beautiful Asian Feast,” celebrating Toronto’s Chinese communities from 12 p.m. to 4 p.m.
For those looking to enjoy the fireworks, the City’s flagship display will be held at Ashbridges Bay Park, starting at 10 p.m. Additional fireworks will light up the night sky at Milliken Park, Amesbury Park, Stan Wadlow Park, and Mel Lastman Square, all beginning at the same time. However, no fireworks will be held at Nathan Phillips Square.
The Canada Day festivities are funded by the Government of Canada and Official Sponsor Tim Hortons. Residents are reminded that they can set off fireworks on their private property without a permit before 11 p.m. on Canada Day, but must adhere to safety guidelines and local bylaws regarding fireworks discharge.
In preparation for the holiday, the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC) will operate on a holiday schedule, with all routes following Sunday service hours. To accommodate the increased number of attendees at Ashbridges Bay Park, bus service on the 22 Coxwell and 92 Woodbine South routes will be enhanced. The public is encouraged to plan their travel and consider using the ferry service to Toronto Island Park, which may be busy on Canada Day.
Outdoor pools, splash pads, and wading pools will operate on a full-time summer schedule, open daily from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m., including July 1. The City also promotes safety at designated swimming beaches, urging residents to swim only when lifeguards are present and to remain vigilant around water.
As part of a broader commitment to health and safety, the City will continue its partnership with the David Cornfield Melanoma Fund to provide free SPF 30 mineral sunscreen at various parks, helping park users stay protected from UV exposure. Additionally, the City encourages everyone to reflect on truth and reconciliation as Canada Day approaches, recognizing the diverse perspectives of First Nations, Inuit, and Métis communities in relation to the day’s significance.
Toronto, recognized as a global leader in various sectors, continues to champion community engagement and cultural celebrations, making this Canada Day a day for all to enjoy in the spirit of unity and celebration.
