Reilly's Roofing Ltd. Fined After Workplace Injury in Mount Forest

Reilly's Roofing Ltd. and its director faced penalties after a serious workplace injury occurred due to a lack of fall protection measures during a residential project.

MOUNT FOREST, ONT. — Reilly’s Roofing Ltd., a roofing contractor located in Georgian Bluffs, Ontario, along with its director Adam Reilly, has been penalized following a workplace injury incident that took place in 2023. An Ontario court bulletin disclosed that on December 22, 2023, employees of Reilly’s Roofing Ltd. were engaged in a residential construction project in Mount Forest, specifically installing shingles on a single-storey home. To access the roof, one worker utilized a ladder that was positioned on uneven, frozen ground, which was not secured at either the top or bottom. At the time, the worker also lacked fall protection equipment, and no fall protection system was in place. As the worker attempted to step from the ladder onto the roof, the ladder twisted, leading to a fall of approximately 11 feet to the ground, resulting in critical injuries. An investigation conducted by the Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development revealed that the necessary fall protection measures were absent. Consequently, both Reilly’s Roofing Ltd. as the employer, and Adam Reilly as its director, were deemed to have not fulfilled their responsibilities under the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Ontario Regulation 213/91. Following guilty pleas in the Provincial Offences Court in Guelph on June 3, 2026, Reilly’s Roofing Ltd. was fined $130,000, while Adam Reilly received a fine of $15,000, imposed by Justice of the Peace Royak.
