REGINA — Recent statistics from the Canada Mortgage and Housing Corporation reveal that Saskatchewan has witnessed an impressive 65.5 percent increase in housing starts in August 2026 compared to August 2025. This surge marks the province's consistent performance, having ranked either first or second in the nation for year-over-year growth in housing starts for three consecutive months. The data indicates that the number of housing starts involving multiple units has soared by 116.7 percent between August 2025 and August 2026. Housing starts are a critical indicator of the number of new residential constructions where the building phase has commenced. Furthermore, the latest figures from Statistics Canada show that Saskatchewan's real Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for 2025 reached an unprecedented high of $85.4 billion. This achievement reflects a growth rate of 2.2 percent, significantly surpassing the national average growth rate of 1.7 percent. In addition to these economic indicators, private capital investment within the province has seen a notable increase, rising by 12 percent to $13.6 billion last year, which positions Saskatchewan at the top among Canadian provinces for such investments.
