Aecon Group Expands U.S. Nuclear Operations with New Fabrication Facility

Aecon Group Inc. has enhanced its presence in the U.S. nuclear sector by acquiring a fabrication facility in South Carolina, aimed at supporting nuclear projects and reinforcing supply chain capacity.

Toronto, Ontario – June 29, 2026: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) has announced a significant expansion of its operations in the United States' nuclear sector through the acquisition of a fabrication facility located in Jackson, South Carolina. This strategic move is designed to bolster Aecon's capabilities in supporting an increasing array of nuclear projects and clients across the U.S. The 120,000-square-foot facility has been in use by Aecon since 2015, and its enhanced operations are expected to be pivotal in providing essential fabrication and manufacturing services for nuclear refurbishment, life extension, new construction projects, as well as federal initiatives. The facility is set to function as a nuclear and ASME fabrication center of excellence, significantly strengthening Aecon’s capacity to deliver complex components while adhering to the highest quality standards. This investment represents a long-term commitment to expanding U.S. nuclear supply chain capabilities. "This investment builds on Aecon’s established, integrated nuclear fabrication network across North America," stated Aaron Johnson, Senior Vice President of Aecon Nuclear. He emphasized that the Jackson facility will enhance Aecon’s ability to offer localized fabrication solutions for U.S. customers, leveraging decades of experience and technical expertise. It also supports Aecon's integrated self-perform solutions, which combine engineering, fabrication, modularization, and construction to address the evolving demands of both commercial and federal nuclear clients. Aecon's existing Fabrication Facility and Welding Centre of Excellence in Cambridge, Ontario, are integral to its operational capabilities, underpinning some of the largest nuclear refurbishment and new build projects across North America. These facilities provide advanced welding, machining, modularization, and specialty fabrication services, enabling the company to maintain control over quality, safety, and scheduling throughout the entire project lifecycle. Collectively, Aecon’s nuclear fabrication facilities offer a scalable platform that supports both extensive refurbishment programs and next-generation nuclear projects, including the first grid-scale Small Modular Reactor (SMR) project currently underway in Ontario. In this project, Aecon is applying its fabrication expertise, modular construction techniques, and specialized workforce to contribute to this pioneering initiative. The facilities hold vital certifications for nuclear quality management systems, compliant with CSA standards in Canada and ASME standards (N, NPT, NS, and NA stamps), along with programmatic compliance with U.S. federal regulation 10 CFR 50 Appendix B. With a growing demand for nuclear energy, Aecon's workforce of 4,000 in the nuclear sector and its expanding fabrication footprint highlight the company's long-term dedication to the U.S. market. This positions Aecon to play a crucial role in solidifying domestic supply chains and enhancing energy security throughout North America.
