Aecon Group Reports Strong Q2 2026 Financial Performance Amidst Major Infrastructure Developments

Aecon Group Inc. has announced significant financial growth for the second quarter of 2026, with a 25% increase in revenue year-over-year and strong contract awards across various sectors.

Toronto, Ontario – July 30, 2026: Aecon Group Inc. (TSX: ARE) has released its financial results for the second quarter of 2026, showcasing a remarkable operational performance. Jean-Louis Servranckx, President and CEO of Aecon, noted that the quarter demonstrated strong operational execution, with revenue rising by 25% compared to the previous year, and Adjusted EBITDA doubling from the same period last year. This growth is bolstered by a substantial backlog of $10.5 billion and the expansion of recurring revenue programs, alongside significant ongoing projects and pursuits across North America in sectors such as power generation, critical resource development, mass transit infrastructure, water, digital infrastructure, and defence. Servranckx emphasized the company’s commitment to disciplined execution and prudent risk management, aiming to deliver profitable growth for shareholders.
The highlights of Aecon's quarterly financial performance include a revenue of $1,631 million for the three months ending June 30, 2026, which reflects an increase of $329 million from the same quarter in 2025. Operating profit surged to $36.4 million, a substantial rise from $2.3 million in the prior year. Adjusted EBITDA reached $82.4 million, equating to a margin of 5.1%, compared to $41.1 million and a margin of 3.2% in the previous year.
As of June 30, 2026, Aecon's reported backlog stood at $10,492 million, slightly down from $10,746 million at the same time last year. The company secured new contract awards totaling $1,269 million in the second quarter, although this was lower than the $2,351 million recorded in the same quarter of 2025.
In terms of project developments, on April 30, 2026, Aecon was selected by Metrolinx as the development partner for the Hamilton Light Rail Transit Civil and Utilities Works project in Ontario, with an alliance development phase agreement executed. This collaborative phase is expected to last approximately 18 to 24 months before transitioning to construction implementation.
Aecon also reached a significant milestone on June 9, 2026, with the Gordie Howe International Bridge project achieving substantial completion, officially opening to traffic on July 27, 2026. This bridge, connecting Windsor, Ontario, and Detroit, Michigan, marks the first new Ontario-Michigan land border crossing in 60 years. Aecon holds a 20% interest in the equity, design-build, and operations of the bridge for a 30-year term.
Additionally, on June 25, 2026, Aecon announced an agreement to acquire the convertible preferred equity investment held by Oaktree Capital Management in Aecon Utilities Group Inc., with a purchase price of $320 million expected to close in the fourth quarter of 2026. This investment represents a 27.5% ownership interest in Aecon Utilities, with an equity value of $1.2 billion and an enterprise value of $1.5 billion.
Following the end of the quarter, Aecon secured several substantial project awards and development phase agreements across various sectors and geographies. A consortium led by Aecon received a multi-billion dollar contract from Greenlight Electricity Centre Limited Partnership for the Greenlight Electricity Centre project in Alberta, with Aecon’s majority share of $1.7 billion added to its Construction segment backlog in the third quarter of 2026.
In British Columbia, the Vancouver Fraser Port Authority selected an Aecon consortium as the preferred proponent for the development phase of the Roberts Bank Terminal 2 project, with a design and early works agreement anticipated in the third quarter of 2026. Furthermore, in Manitoba, Aecon was awarded an $815 million contract for the North End Sewage Treatment Plant Upgrade project by the City of Winnipeg, with Aecon’s share added to its backlog in the third quarter.
Aecon’s outlook for the remainder of 2026 remains optimistic, with expectations of double-digit revenue growth driven by a robust backlog and a pipeline of project opportunities across various sectors. The company anticipates continued strength from both large projects and ongoing small to mid-sized work programs, positioning itself for sustained growth in the coming years.
