SCHAUMBURG, Ill. — In a recent development, Brian McGuire, president and CEO of the Associated Equipment Distributors (AED), has reached out to governors across the United States who represent states heavily engaged in trade with Canada. His correspondence aims to prompt action to address the persistent trade impasse between the two nations. McGuire emphasizes that supply chains in the construction and agricultural sectors are intricately linked across borders, stating, "Our supply chains do not stop at state lines or national borders. Heavy machinery, agricultural equipment, industrial components, and service parts routinely cross the U.S.-Canada border multiple times during production and distribution." He warns that the ongoing trade disputes create significant uncertainty that could disrupt vital multi-year capital investments, inflate equipment costs, and pose a direct threat to local employment. Recently, McGuire made a trip to Washington, D.C., where he engaged with officials from the Canadian Embassy and senior lawmakers, including members of the House Ways & Means Committee’s Subcommittee on Trade. In his letters to the governors, he reiterated AED’s commitment to free and fair trade, highlighting the critical role of the United States-Mexico-Canada Agreement (USMCA) in supporting equipment dealers, manufacturers, and customers alike. "AED respectfully calls on you to exercise every mechanism at your disposal to return to a consistent and tariff-free trade relationship with Canada," he urged. McGuire pointed out that the USMCA was designed to ensure stable, duty-free trade and to safeguard North American competitiveness. He added, "Honoring the framework of the USMCA is essential to maintaining low operational costs for small businesses, farmers, contractors, and builders." The AED has committed to closely monitoring the evolving trade situation between the U.S. and Canada, vowing to remain actively engaged in efforts to foster a resolution that protects the integrity of North American supply chains.
