BC One Call and BCLNA Forge Partnership to Enhance Excavation Safety and Education

BC One Call and the BC Landscape & Nursery Association have signed an MOU to improve industry education and excavation safety.

In a significant development for the landscaping and nursery sectors, BC One Call Limited (BC 1 Call) has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with the BC Landscape & Nursery Association (BCLNA). This partnership aims to bolster collaboration on crucial aspects such as industry education, excavation safety, damage prevention, and the protection of underground infrastructure. The necessity for such a collaboration arises from the routine ground disturbance activities undertaken by landscape professionals and nurseries, which are essential for installing and maintaining various outdoor features including landscapes, irrigation systems, trees, lighting, and fencing.
The release detailing the agreement emphasizes the importance of education and planning in ensuring safe excavation. Donna Grant, president of BC 1 Call, articulated this sentiment, stating, "Safe excavation doesn’t begin with a shovel. It begins with planning." She highlighted that by merging BC 1 Call’s expertise in damage prevention with BCLNA’s commitment to professional education and industry excellence, they can significantly enhance the knowledge and resources available to those engaged in excavation work.
Coreen Rodger Berrisford, executive director of BCLNA, echoed this commitment, noting that their members prioritize quality work performed safely and professionally. The partnership with BC 1 Call is seen as a strategic move to elevate industry education, ensuring that landscape and nursery professionals are well-equipped to plan their excavation activities responsibly and safeguard the underground infrastructure that is vital to community services.
The two organizations will actively promote the importance of contacting BC 1 Call prior to any ground disturbance. This proactive measure is intended to prevent potential damage to underground infrastructure and to support the implementation of safe excavation practices across the industry. Through this collaboration, BC 1 Call and BCLNA aim to foster a culture of safety and responsibility within the landscaping and nursery professions, ultimately contributing to the protection of essential underground services that serve the broader community.
