The B.C. Supreme Court has dismissed a legal challenge against the Vancouver Aquatic Centre renewal, allowing the city to proceed with demolition and renovation plans.

Supreme Court has recently dismissed a legal challenge that questioned the authority of the city and the Vancouver Board of Parks and Recreation to move forward with the renewal of the Vancouver Aquatic Centre (VAC). The legal action was initiated by the Protecting our Vancouver Aquatic Centre Society, which sought to halt the renewal plans. Earlier this summer, the centre was closed to the public, and site preparations for the demolition of the current structure have already commenced.

The new facility will include a 25-metre lap pool suitable for swimming and competitive events, a dedicated diving tank equipped with boards of varying heights, and a leisure pool that will incorporate wellness features such as a hot pool and sauna. Additionally, the centre will boast an expanded fitness room filled with modern equipment, a multi-purpose room intended for community programs and events, and accessible washrooms and changing facilities to ensure inclusivity for all users.
This ambitious project is fully funded within a substantial budget of $175 million, reflecting the city's commitment to providing high-quality recreational services to its residents. With the legal challenges now resolved, the Vancouver Aquatic Centre renewal is poised to move forward, promising to deliver a state-of-the-art facility that meets the evolving needs of the community.
