CentrePort Canada Inc. Appoints Michael Woelcke as New Chair of Board of Directors

Michael Woelcke has been appointed as the new chair of CentrePort Canada Inc.'s board, succeeding Shreeraj Patel. Woelcke brings extensive experience in transportation and infrastructure, promising to drive economic growth in Manitoba.

CentrePort Canada Inc. has announced the appointment of Michael Woelcke as chair of its private sector-led board of directors. Woelcke, who joined the board in 2024 representing the Government of Canada, previously served as vice-chair. His extensive background includes a tenure as CEO of Arctic Gateway Group and a notable 30-year career at VIA Rail Canada, where he held the position of general manager of regional services for five years. His diverse expertise in areas such as property management, real estate, procurement, and customer services has proven beneficial to the board, according to a company release.
Carly Edmundson, the president and CEO of CentrePort Canada Inc., expressed confidence in Woelcke's leadership. "Michael’s depth of experience in transportation and infrastructure will serve CentrePort Canada well," she stated. Alongside vice-chair Bram Strain, who has been on the board since 2025 and is also the president and CEO of the Business Council of Manitoba, Edmundson believes the board will continue to provide essential strategic direction and promote new economic opportunities within CentrePort Canada.
The leadership transition follows the conclusion of Shreeraj (Raj) Patel’s term as board chair. Patel, who was nominated in 2022 by the Winnipeg Chamber of Commerce, held the chair position from 2024 to 2026. Woelcke expressed gratitude for Patel’s leadership, stating, "On behalf of the board of directors and the staff of CentrePort Canada, I would like to thank Raj for his kind and thoughtful leadership and his commitment to building both a strong corporation and thriving inland port."
"I am excited to embark on this next chapter with CentrePort Canada," Woelcke added. CentrePort is recognized as Canada’s largest and most established trimodal inland port and plays a crucial role in fostering economic growth in Manitoba. The strategic direction provided by the board is expected to enhance the corporation's operations and bolster its contributions to the regional economy.
