In Acheson, Alberta, Canada Nickel Company Inc. has made a pivotal decision in its Crawford Nickel Project by selecting SMS Equipment and Komatsu as partners for the load, haul, and mining support fleet equipment, which will include associated autonomous technology. This strategic collaboration is particularly noteworthy as the Crawford Nickel Sulphide Project is the first mine to achieve approval from the Impact Assessment Agency of Canada through the newly established Major Projects Office.The Crawford project is considered one of the most promising mining ventures in Canada, with a staggering estimated value of $3.5 billion. Located approximately 40 kilometers north of Timmins, Ontario, it boasts the world’s second-largest nickel resource and reserve. The project's significance is underscored by the statement from Robin Heard, president and CEO of SMS Equipment, who expressed enthusiasm about the partnership. He stated, “Crawford is one of the most exciting new mining projects in Canada.
