Federal Investment to Enhance Skills Training for First Nations Youth in Calgary's Construction Sector

The Government of Canada is investing $3.21 million to support employment and skills training for First Nations youth in Treaty 7 territory, an initiative welcomed by the Calgary Construction Association.

CALGARY, ALTA. — The Calgary Construction Association (CCA) has expressed its support for a significant investment made by the Government of Canada, which is allocating approximately $3.21 million to enhance employment and skills training opportunities for First Nations youth residing in Treaty 7 territory. This funding will specifically be directed towards the Community Futures Treaty Seven’s Regional Skills Link Project.
Bill Black, the President and CEO of the CCA, commented on the announcement, stating, "We are always encouraged when governments fund initiatives intended to support and secure the workforce of the future." He emphasized that workforce development is a critical challenge for Calgary’s construction industry. "As our city and province continue to grow, we need more young people to see construction and the skilled trades as viable, rewarding and long-term career paths," he added.
The initiative is particularly significant as it focuses on community-driven training and employment programs that are tailored to the specific needs, priorities, and strengths of the local communities. By providing mentorship, coaching, skills training, and comprehensive support, these programs aim to eliminate barriers to employment for First Nations youth.
