George Greenwood Appointed CEO of CHBA BC, Aiming to Navigate Complex Homebuilding Challenges

George Greenwood takes the helm as CEO of the Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia, focusing on strategic support for members amid challenging market conditions.

BURNABY, B.C. – The Canadian Home Builders’ Association of British Columbia (CHBA BC) has announced the appointment of George Greenwood as its new Chief Executive Officer. Greenwood, who has previously served as the CEO of the Kelowna Chamber of Commerce, brings over two decades of experience in leading member-driven organizations through strategic and financial transformations, according to a statement from the association. His extensive background includes close collaboration with municipal, provincial, and federal leaders to advocate for business growth, housing development, and regional economic vitality.
In his own words, Greenwood expressed enthusiasm about joining CHBA BC during a pivotal time for the homebuilding sector. "The homebuilding sector is navigating complex times, and I am excited to be joining the association alongside CHBA BC’s dedicated leadership, staff, and highly engaged membership across the province,” he stated. He emphasized that his primary goal is to continue providing robust support to the association's members, especially as current market conditions pose challenges to advancing new housing projects.
Greenwood's appointment comes after a thorough search that lasted several months, aimed at finding a leader capable of guiding the industry through a period marked by softening market conditions, workforce impacts, and persistent approval bottlenecks. His start date with CHBA BC is set for early July, and he will be tasked with implementing the association's strategic plan for 2025–2029. This plan aims to assist builders and renovators in navigating the shifting landscape of affordability challenges, economic pressures, and evolving regulations.
In addition to addressing these critical issues, Greenwood will also oversee the design and construction of CHBA BC’s new headquarters in Coquitlam, which is scheduled to move from Burnaby in 2027. The new location is part of the association's efforts to strengthen its presence and capabilities in the region. Greenwood's leadership is anticipated to be pivotal in steering the organization through the complexities of the current housing market, further enhancing its support for members and ensuring the continued growth of the homebuilding sector in British Columbia.
