Momentum 2026 Symposium to Address Building Electrification in B.C.

A significant event focusing on the transition to electrification in the building sector is set to take place in New Westminster, B.C., gathering industry leaders to discuss advancements and recognize achievements in building electrification.

NEW WESTMINSTER, B.C. – A symposium dedicated to the transition from fossil fuels to electrification in the building sector is scheduled for Wednesday, October 21, 2026. The event, titled Momentum 2026, will convene around 150 leaders from the building industry, policymakers, and other stakeholders at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster. This gathering marks a significant milestone, celebrating five years of initiatives undertaken by the Building to Electrification Coalition (B2E), a program managed by the Zero Emissions Innovation Centre, aimed at accelerating the electrification of buildings throughout British Columbia.
The B2E coalition consists of 280 organizational members spanning various sectors, and it is currently at a crucial juncture in its efforts to lower building emissions. The coalition is also responding to the rising energy demand and the associated costs of both new construction and retrofitting existing structures. A key goal of the coalition is to move from setting electrification targets to implementing them on a large scale.
During the Momentum 2026 event, a range of topics will be discussed, shedding light on the various facets of building electrification. These include the driving forces behind the shift to electrified buildings both in British Columbia and globally, as well as the emerging technologies and opportunities that can facilitate this transition.
Additionally, the symposium will address workforce development, retrofitting strategies, and financing opportunities that are essential for promoting building electrification. Attendees can expect updates on the progress of priority actions outlined in the BC Building Electrification Roadmap.
One of the highlights of the event will be a keynote address focusing on how BC Hydro is navigating the challenges of balancing future growth with the need for affordability in energy provision.
The symposium will also feature an awards program that recognizes six exemplary individuals and projects that have made significant contributions to advancing building electrification in British Columbia.
