City of Toronto to Honor 14 Fallen Firefighters in Memorial Ceremony

The City of Toronto will hold a memorial ceremony on September 27, 2026, to honor 14 fallen firefighters, recognizing their service and sacrifice in protecting the community.

On September 26, 2026, the City of Toronto announced a memorial ceremony set for the following day to honor the addition of 14 fallen firefighters to the Memorial Honour Roll. This significant event will take place at Toronto Fire and Marine Station 334, located at 339 Queens Quay W., beginning at 10:50 a.m. The ceremony will feature remarks from the Mayor of Toronto and Toronto Fire Chief Jim Jessop, alongside members of Toronto Fire Services, the Toronto Professional Fire Fighters’ Association, family members of the deceased, and representatives from affiliated fire service organizations.
The annual event is a poignant gathering that acknowledges the brave contributions of Toronto firefighters, alongside the families and friends of those who have made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. Since its inception in 1848, the Memorial Honour Roll has recognized the 367 Toronto firefighters who have lost their lives while safeguarding the city’s residents, property, and environment.
The names of the 14 firefighters being honored include Captain Philip S. J. Ball, who passed away on April 16, 2023, Captain John (Jack) Bayley, who died on December 26, 1998, and Firefighter Joseph P. Bonanno, who was lost on June 4, 2025, among others. Each firefighter's name will be added to the existing list of 336 individuals already memorialized. The full list of the fallen includes:

- Captain David C. Wilcox (September 13, 2023)
