The New Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project has reached the halfway mark, with significant advancements in construction and a projected completion date in spring 2028.
PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. – The New Prince Albert Victoria Hospital project has officially reached its halfway point in construction, marking a significant milestone for the facility's development. The project, which falls under the public sector, is valued at an impressive $898 million and is located at 1200 24 St W, Prince Albert, SK. This acute care tower is set to provide substantial enhancements to healthcare services in the region. According to a recent release, PCL Construction Ltd. has successfully completed the assembly of the primary structure, which includes the installation of a rooftop heliport. Currently, the exterior insulation is nearing completion, while work on the exterior cladding is actively progressing. With the full tower now accessible, construction teams are advancing on the installation of major mechanical and electrical systems, as well as interior finishes that include drywall and door frames. Upon completion, the multi-storey acute care tower will boost the hospital's capacity by approximately 40 percent, increasing inpatient beds from 174 to 242. Key features of the new facility will include larger emergency and operating rooms, dedicated units for pediatrics and maternity, as well as a new adult mental health and intensive care unit. Additionally, the hospital will enhance its medical imaging capabilities with the introduction of the region's first MRI. The Malhotra Neonatal Intensive Care Unit is set to relocate to the new tower, expanding the number of available bassinets from 11 to 13. Both PCL Construction and the Saskatchewan Health Authority (SHA) are collaborating closely to ensure that the ongoing construction has minimal impact on hospital visitors and staff. According to PCL Construction project director Grant Selinger, reaching the 50 percent construction milestone is a testament to the strong momentum of this project, which has already surpassed one million worker hours. He expressed gratitude to the Saskatchewan Government, SHA, the City of Prince Albert, community members, user groups, consultants, and trade partners who have contributed to this collective effort. Selinger emphasized the lasting impact this hospital will have across northern Saskatchewan. The facility is anticipated to be completed by the spring of 2028, further solidifying its role in enhancing healthcare services in the region.
