In the Fraser Valley, significant construction has commenced on a new crossing at Peardonville Road, part of the broader Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program. The provincial government has announced that this project, valued at $119.4 million, is a crucial step toward enhancing the infrastructure along Highway 1. Emil Anderson Group has been awarded the contract to execute the work, which is being financed through a partnership with the City of Abbotsford.
This new crossing aims to replace the existing overpass, expanding it to accommodate four lanes, as well as integrating protected bike lanes and sidewalks. Additionally, improvements will be made to Peardonville Road and the surrounding connections to the north and south of Highway 1. As part of this construction initiative, approximately 1.6 kilometers of Highway 1 will also be widened, introducing new high-occupancy vehicle lanes, electric vehicle lanes, and bus-on-shoulder lanes.
The initiation of work at Peardonville Road marks a significant milestone, as it indicates that all segments of the Fraser Valley Highway 1 Corridor Improvement Program are now in active construction.
