COQUITLAM, B.C. — The Canadian federal government has announced a significant investment of up to $67.4 million through the Direct Delivery stream of the Build Communities Strong Fund to develop a new community centre in Burke Mountain. This project is particularly noteworthy as the Burke Mountain neighbourhood in northeast Coquitlam is recognized as one of the fastest-growing communities in British Columbia. The new Burke Mountain Community Centre is set to become a central hub for the planned Burke Mountain Village Centre, a larger initiative aimed at enhancing local recreational and cultural offerings.
The community centre will feature a wide array of amenities, including a six-lane lap pool, a steam room, a sauna, a climbing wall, and a drop slide. Additionally, it will house a double gymnasium to facilitate sports and active play. A fully equipped fitness centre with a weight room and studio space will also be part of the facility, along with multi-purpose rooms designed for programs, meetings, and events. To further enhance its community role, the centre will include a new branch of the Coquitlam Public Library.
In line with the City of Coquitlam’s commitment to sustainability, the community centre is being designed to meet the Zero Carbon Building Design Standard.
