GHD Selected for Major Upgrades at Burlington's Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant

GHD has been awarded the contract for significant upgrades to the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant in Burlington, Ontario, aimed at enhancing operational efficiency and service reliability.

In a significant development for wastewater management in Ontario, GHD has been chosen to implement upgrades at the Skyway Wastewater Treatment Plant located in Burlington. This project will encompass essential refurbishments, including the secondary clarifiers, rehabilitation of anaerobic digesters, and the replacement of thickened waste-activated sludge pumps. According to a statement from GHD, these enhancements are aimed at boosting the plant's overall performance, minimizing maintenance risks, and ensuring uninterrupted service for the local community. GHD will oversee the entire project lifecycle, which includes initial investigations, design phases, construction support, and the final commissioning of the facility. The project's scope is comprehensive, covering the preparation of contract documents, tendering processes, contract administration, site inspections, SCADA system integration, staff training, and the delivery of detailed record documentation. Notably, GHD has previously managed the refurbishment of secondary clarifiers 5 to 8 and the installation of a new high voltage substation at the same facility. "We value the trust the region has placed in us to deliver this work," stated Don Holland, project director and GHD’s Canadian water leader. He emphasized that their existing familiarity with the plant enables them to adopt a calculated approach to the upgrades, thereby supporting the continuity of operations for the broader community. To execute these upgrades effectively, GHD will collaborate with several partners, including Kusiar Project Services Inc., Eramosa (which is part of CIMA+), NCE Value Engineers Inc., TreeFrog Environmental, and T2 Utility Engineers (T2ue). This partnership underscores GHD's commitment to leveraging local expertise and resources to enhance the plant's operational capabilities.
