Saskatchewan Leads Canada in Building Permit Growth for June 2026
📅 Today
Saskatchewan reported a remarkable increase in building permits for June 2026, marking significant growth both month-over-month and year-over-year, as the province continues to strengthen its economy.
REGINA — Recent figures from Statistics Canada reveal that Saskatchewan has experienced a significant surge in building permits, achieving a remarkable month-over-month growth of 101.6 percent from May 2026 to June 2026. This impressive growth positions Saskatchewan at the forefront of building permit increases in Canada. Trade and Export Development Minister Warren Kaeding commented on the statistics, stating, "Strong permit growth means more homes under construction, more jobs for Saskatchewan workers and more private-sector investment in our communities." Kaeding emphasized that this momentum not only strengthens the province's economy but also supports essential services for families, ultimately contributing to the high quality of life that residents of Saskatchewan expect and deserve. In addition to the month-over-month growth, Saskatchewan's building permits also saw a year-over-year increase of 90.3 percent from June 2025 to June 2026, ranking the province second in the nation for this statistic. The value of building permits reflects the total dollar amount for both residential and non-residential construction projects. This uptick in permits suggests a robust demand for new constructions across various sectors.
Further supporting the positive economic outlook, Statistics Canada has released Growth Domestic Product (GDP) figures indicating that Saskatchewan's real GDP reached an unprecedented high of $85.4 billion in 2025. This figure represents a 2.2 percent increase, significantly outpacing the national average growth rate of 1.7 percent. The province's economic performance is bolstered by a 12 percent rise in private capital investment, which totaled $13.6 billion last year, placing Saskatchewan at the top among Canadian provinces in this regard.
The strong building permit growth, coupled with the rising GDP and private investment, paints a promising picture for the future of Saskatchewan's economy. The increase in construction activity is expected to create numerous job opportunities and enhance the overall economic landscape, fostering a thriving environment for businesses and families alike. As Saskatchewan continues to lead in these key economic indicators, the province is well-positioned to maintain its growth trajectory in the upcoming years.
