TC Energy Launches Two New Natural Gas Projects in Western Alberta

TC Energy Corp. has successfully commenced operations for two significant projects in western Alberta, investing $500 million to enhance the capacity of its natural gas transport system.

CALGARY, ALTA. — TC Energy Corp., a key player in the natural gas transportation sector, has announced the successful commissioning of two newly constructed projects in western Alberta. The Calgary-based company has committed a substantial investment totaling $500 million towards the development of the Valhalla North and Berland River projects. These initiatives are integral components of TC Energy’s expansive NGTL System, which facilitates the transportation of natural gas across Alberta and British Columbia.
The Valhalla North project features a 33-kilometre pipeline situated northwest of Grande Prairie, Alberta. This pipeline is designed to enhance the efficiency and capacity of the existing infrastructure. Meanwhile, the Berland River project comprises a 30-megawatt electric-powered compressor station located northwest of Edson, Alberta. Together, these projects are set to increase the total capacity of the NGTL System by an impressive 400 million cubic feet of natural gas per day.
In addition to their operational capabilities, TC Energy has made a commitment to local communities, having awarded over $24 million to Indigenous businesses during the construction phase of these projects. This financial support is a testament to the company’s dedication to fostering economic opportunities within the local Indigenous communities.
The projects also provided significant employment opportunities, with a peak workforce of 775 workers engaged during the construction period. This level of employment not only underscores the scale of the projects but also highlights their importance in contributing to local economies.
TC Energy’s investment in these projects aligns with broader industry trends focusing on enhancing energy infrastructure and capacity to meet growing demand. The successful completion of Valhalla North and Berland River is expected to play a critical role in supporting natural gas supply across the region, particularly as energy requirements continue to evolve.
The strategic positioning of these projects within the NGTL System underscores TC Energy’s commitment to maintaining a robust and efficient natural gas transportation network. With the completion of these projects, TC Energy is poised to further strengthen its operational capabilities in the region, ensuring reliable energy delivery to meet both current and future demands.
