The Vancouver Regional Construction Association has initiated the Build Lower Mainland campaign, focusing on enhancing collaboration between the construction industry and local government as the municipal elections approach.

As the municipal election in Vancouver approaches, the Vancouver Regional Construction Association (VRCA) has unveiled its Build Lower Mainland campaign. This initiative is centered on three core priorities: the cost to build, the time to build, and the workforce available to build. The aim of this campaign is to forge stronger connections between the construction industry and local government, while also advancing practical solutions to the challenges faced in these areas, according to a recent press release.
The campaign was officially launched during a panel discussion featuring prominent figures such as Ken Sim, the mayor of Vancouver, Mike Hurley, the mayor of Burnaby, and Huw Williams, the president of Impact Public Affairs. The session was moderated by Craig Larkins, who serves as the director of advocacy and engagement at VRCA. The discussion revolved around municipal decisions that impact construction, housing, infrastructure, and regional growth.
Jeannine Martin, the president of VRCA, emphasized the importance of incorporating construction expertise earlier in the decision-making processes that affect both the industry and the communities it serves. "Every community relies on construction, yet too often our industry is brought into the conversation after the biggest decisions have already been made," Martin stated.
She further explained that the Build Lower Mainland initiative aims to change this dynamic. By ensuring that construction professionals have a voice from the beginning, the community can benefit from improved decisions, stronger partnerships, and more successful project completions.
