EllisDon celebrates groundbreaking for Penticton Regional Hospital Patient Care Tower

Part 1 – News Summary EllisDon, in partnership with Interior Health and attended by British Columbia Premier Christy Clark, marked a significant milestone with the groundbreaking of a new patient care facility in Penticton. This project represents the first major expansion at Penticton Regional Hospital in 25 years and is delivered as a public–private partnership – the third such win for EllisDon in the province. The initiative involves the construction of a 281,700‑square‑foot patient care tower, planned to operate in two phases. The first phase encompasses the development of the tower and a parkade, featuring an ambulatory care centre, surgical services, and 84 single‑patient inpatient beds. Additional facilities include a medical device reprocessing unit and dedicated space for the UBC Faculty of Medicine program. The structure is being designed with sustainability in mind, targeting LEED Gold certification. Part 2 – Industry Context This development is significant within the Canadian construction and healthcare sectors, reflecting ongoing efforts to modernize infrastructure under public–private partnerships. The expansion at Penticton Regional Hospital addresses growing community healthcare demands while integrating sustainability goals. Projects of this scale contribute to regional economic activity and highlight a trend toward long‑term infrastructure investments that blend operational efficiency with environmentally responsible design. Such initiatives reinforce the pivotal role of modern construction in enhancing service delivery across public institutions.
