MOUNT PEARL, N.L. — In a collaborative effort, the federal government, the provincial government of Newfoundland and Labrador, and local municipalities have unveiled a substantial investment exceeding $23 million dedicated to advancing 10 water and wastewater projects throughout the province. This strategic funding is poised to support the construction of approximately 1,800 new housing units, as outlined in a recent announcement.Among the highlighted initiatives is a $5.3 million project located on Holden Street in Mount Pearl, designated as the Holden Street Water and Sewer Replacement (WSR) Upgrades. This project is currently in the final planning stage with an estimated value of $4.5 million. The initiative aims to revamp outdated water, sewer, and stormwater infrastructure, which is critical for facilitating further housing developments in the Kenmount Hill area.
In addition to the Holden Street project, the investment portfolio includes a $6.4 million endeavor to replace the aging water tower in Twillingate. This project is essential to ensure the reliability of the water supply in the region. Furthermore, a $6.8 million initiative is set to overhaul the deteriorating water and wastewater infrastructure in Stephenville, addressing significant public health and environmental concerns.
