Construction Begins on Camosun College's First Student Housing Project

Camosun College's Lansdowne campus is set to welcome its first student housing facility, with construction officially underway on a six-storey building that will provide 429 beds and various amenities.

Construction has officially commenced on a significant student-housing project at Camosun Collegeโ€™s Lansdowne campus, marking the institution's first venture into on-campus housing. The new six-storey building will feature a diverse range of accommodation options, including single-bedroom dormitories, studio units, and four-bedroom apartment-style apartments, collectively providing a total of 429 beds for students. In addition to residential spaces, the facility will also include temporary accommodation designed to assist students facing crises. The building is set to offer a variety of amenities such as a coffee shop, meeting areas, and secure bicycle parking facilities. Each floor of the residence will be equipped with communal laundry rooms, lounges, and quiet study areas, catering to the diverse needs of the student population. The design of the building aims to foster a welcoming environment that aligns with Indigenous culture and values, demonstrating a commitment to inclusivity and community. Furthermore, the construction is aligned with sustainability goals, as it aims to achieve BC Energy Step Code Level 4 and LEED Platinum certification, reflecting a growing trend in the construction industry towards environmentally responsible building practices. Financial backing for the project comes primarily from the provincial government, which has allocated $151.7 million, while Camosun College is contributing an additional $3 million. Completion of the project is anticipated in early 2029, paving the way for enhanced student living facilities at the college.
