In a significant development for the Ontario Place Redevelopment, Infrastructure Ontario (IO) and the Ministry of Tourism, Gaming and Culture (MTCG) have awarded a contract to EllisDon Civil Ltd. for construction management services. The contract focuses on the public realm components of this extensive project, which aims to enhance the waterfront and public spaces. The work outlined in the contract includes upgrading existing public areas, creating new and expanded access to the waterfront, and restoring and enhancing the water’s edge to ensure uninterrupted public access throughout the site. Additionally, the project will involve landscaping and site development efforts, which will introduce new structural amenities, attractions, and features to the area.
The selection of EllisDon Civil Ltd. came after a thorough procurement process that began in June 2025, indicating a well-structured approach to project delivery. Construction is set to commence in the coming weeks, with a targeted completion date set for summer 2030. This timeline reflects the ambitious nature of the redevelopment efforts at Ontario Place, a site that holds significant cultural and recreational importance.
While the final project cost has yet to be confirmed, IO and MTCG have noted that the total expenses will be finalized once pricing for various subcontracts and key supplies is established. Earlier in June, a separate contract worth $198 million was awarded to Pomerleau for the parking structure component of the redevelopment, further highlighting the scale and complexity of the overall project.
