Englobe Corporation Honored with ACEC-NB Engineering Excellence Award for Neqotkuk First Nation Water Treatment Project

Englobe Corporation's New Brunswick team received an ACEC-NB Engineering Excellence award for their work on the Neqotkuk First Nation Water Treatment Plant and Distribution Line project, enhancing community water safety and capacity.

The Englobe Corporation's New Brunswick team has been recognized with an Engineering Excellence award by the Association of Consulting Engineering Companies (ACEC) New Brunswick for their pivotal role as the prime consultant in the Neqotkuk First Nation Water Treatment Plant and Distribution Line project. This project, commissioned in November 2023, is a significant advancement for the community, providing safe and reliable water while enhancing their existing infrastructure.
The award was presented during the gala event that celebrates the exemplary contributions of consulting engineers from New Brunswick, recognizing their achievements both locally and internationally. The Engineering Excellence Awards Gala serves as a platform to highlight the critical role that these engineers play in improving community services through innovative engineering solutions.
The Neqotkuk First Nation Water Treatment Plant represents a collaborative effort between Englobe and the Neqotkuk First Nation. The project involved detailed design, construction inspection, and management services that were essential to the development of a new water treatment facility. This facility was designed to service a portion of the community and features advanced components including drilled wells, potable well pumps, a new well building, and a 1.5 km long transmission main connecting the wells to the treatment plant.
Among the sophisticated systems integrated into the new infrastructure are nano filtration, UV disinfection, flow monitoring, and a SCADA system, all of which enhance the safety and efficiency of water distribution. The project required careful management of the detailed design process and engagement with various stakeholders, reflecting the unique challenges faced by the team.
Englobe’s project management approach was proactive, utilizing advanced civil engineering techniques and culturally appropriate support to ensure the project's success. The new water treatment plant is capable of handling a design flow of 11.3 liters per second, accommodating current needs and allowing for future growth in the community.
This award not only signifies the technical achievements of Englobe but also underscores the importance of community-focused engineering projects that address vital public health needs. The Neqotkuk First Nation Water Treatment Plant is now a point of pride for the community, marking a substantial improvement over their previous water system.
The recognition from ACEC-NB highlights the dedication of Englobe’s team members, including Ryan Esligar, Teresa Jones, Lynn Miller, Ghislain Hachey, Geoff Flanagan, and Syed Tabish Kamal, who worked tirelessly to bring this project to fruition. Their efforts exemplify the high standards of engineering practice in New Brunswick and the positive impact that such projects can have on local communities.
