Innovative Home Built from Recycled Plastic Bottles Unveiled in Quebec

PakVille™ has constructed a sustainable two-bedroom home in Quebec using structural panels made from recycled plastic, showcasing advancements in eco-friendly construction methods.

In a significant development for sustainable construction, PakVille™, a cleantech company located in Dorval, Quebec, has successfully completed a two-bedroom home in Saint-Rémi-d’Amherst, utilizing structural panels created from the equivalent of around 200,000 recycled plastic bottles. The assembly of the home's structural shell was remarkably swift, taking just three days to complete on-site. The innovative technology behind this construction is led by Canadian entrepreneur and professional engineer Parinaz Pakniat, who has developed PakVert™ technology. This method substitutes traditional building materials with lightweight, prefabricated structural panels that integrate structure, insulation, and finishing into a single system. These versatile panels are applicable for walls, floors, and roofs, highlighting their multifunctional capabilities. According to the company, this building system can potentially lower construction costs by about 35% when compared to conventional building methods, although the exact savings can vary based on the specifics of each project. A greenhouse gas assessment conducted by Oxia indicates that a one-storey home built with PakVille™ technology could produce 37% fewer greenhouse gas emissions over a span of 60 years relative to standard wood-frame construction practices. The panels are constructed with a 100% recycled PET core and are designed to withstand moisture, mold, rot, and pest issues, enhancing their durability and sustainability. Founded in 2023, PakVille™ Construction Corp. is committed to innovating building materials derived from recycled plastics, aiming to streamline construction processes while ensuring affordability and sustainability. The company has gained national attention for its pioneering approach to eco-friendly construction, having appeared on CBC’s Dragons’ Den, which has further solidified its reputation in the industry.
