Melissa Ruck Receives Field Operations Excellence Award at Women in Construction Gala

Melissa Ruck of Gillam has been awarded the Field Operations Excellence Award at the inaugural Women in Construction Awards, recognizing her leadership and contributions in the construction industry.

TORONTO – Melissa Ruck, associate director at Gillam, has been recognized with the prestigious Field Operations Excellence Award, presented during the inaugural Women in Construction Awards organized by the Ontario General Contractors Association (OGCA). This accolade honors her exceptional performance, professionalism, and leadership in field operations, along with her ability to deliver superior quality work while effectively managing complex challenges and contributing to safe, efficient job sites. In a statement released by the OGCA, Ruck expressed her gratitude towards her mentors, sponsors, colleagues, and friends, acknowledging their support throughout her nearly 20-year career in the construction industry. Ruck received the award at the annual Women in Construction Gala held at Universal EventSpace in Vaughan, Ontario. “Construction is an industry that challenges you every day – and field operations especially requires resilience, accountability, teamwork, and the ability to stay calm under pressure,” she remarked during her acceptance speech. Ruck has been with Gillam for 13 years, during which she has progressed through various roles, including project co-ordinator, assistant project manager, and project manager. Her consistent performance and dedication led to her recent promotion to associate director of operations, making her the first female member of the operations management team at Gillam. Among her significant contributions are key projects such as the extensive expansion and renovation of the Royal Victoria Hospital in Barrie, Ontario; the Barrie-Simcoe Emergency Services Campus; and the LOFT Bradford House, a supportive housing development aimed at seniors and older adults. Reflecting on the significance of this recognition, Ruck stated, “What makes this recognition so meaningful is knowing it reflects not only the work I’ve done but the incredible teams, mentors, trade partners, and colleagues I’ve had the opportunity to work alongside.” She emphasized that true leadership is not about being the loudest in the room but about building trust, collaboratively solving problems, and consistently being present for her team.
