Saskatchewan Invests Over $77 Million in Infrastructure Projects in Prince Albert Region

The Province of Saskatchewan has announced significant funding for various highway and bridge projects in the Prince Albert region, totaling more than $77 million this construction season.

PRINCE ALBERT, SASK. – The Province of Saskatchewan has unveiled an investment exceeding $77 million for a series of ongoing, recent, and planned infrastructure projects in the Prince Albert area and other northern regions. This announcement highlights the government's commitment to improving transportation infrastructure and addressing critical needs in the province.
Among the key initiatives is an estimated $13.5 million allocated for enhancements along more than 11 kilometers of Highway 302, located to the east of Prince Albert. This project includes significant upgrades such as grading, paving, the replacement of 15 culverts, and improvements to intersections. Construction commenced in June, with expectations to wrap up by the end of this year.
Another major project is the twinning of approximately six kilometers of Highway 2 to the north of Prince Albert, which is projected to cost around $12.9 million. Grading work is currently in progress, with paving planned for a subsequent contract. This undertaking is anticipated to reach completion by the end of 2027 and is a collaborative effort funded by both the Canadian and Saskatchewan governments.
In addition, approximately $6.9 million has been earmarked for both temporary and permanent bridge solutions on Highway 165 at the Smoothstone River. A temporary bridge has already been opened for traffic, while a new permanent bridge is expected to be finalized within this year.
Further investments include $1.7 million for the replacement of the Highway 304 bridge near Meadow Lake, which sustained damage due to spring flooding; this work is set to commence this summer and be completed within the year. Similarly, $5.9 million has been allocated for the replacement of the Waterhen River Bridge on Highway 903, with work already started this spring and a completion date set for the end of the year.
The Clearwater Bridge on Highway 955, located north of La Loche, is also undergoing replacement with an estimated investment of $7.3 million. Construction is currently underway and is expected to finish this year. Additionally, minor projects include about $300,000 allocated for bridge repairs on Highway 106 north of Smeaton and Highway 6 south of Melfort, with these repairs anticipated to be completed this summer.
Other projects include $7.6 million invested to improve over 11 kilometers of Highway 106 near Narrow Hills Provincial Park, which was completed in June, and $4.5 million for enhancements to nearly 3 kilometers of Highway 102 north of Missinipe, also finished this year. Furthermore, about $9.3 million is being spent to reconstruct and resurface more than 16 kilometers of Highway 135 near Pelican Narrows, with work having begun in May and expected to be completed this year.
Lastly, an investment of $4 million has been allocated for infrastructure improvements involving culverts and bridges on Highway 35 north of Tisdale, the Highway 3 access road to Brancepeth, and Highway 962 near Uranium City. Work on these projects is either currently underway or set to begin this summer, with completion expected within the year. Additionally, more than $3 million is being invested in seal coating projects on Highway 2 in the La Ronge area and Highway 4 in the Cochin area during this construction season, along with an estimated $345,000 for seal coating more than six kilometers of Highway 3 near Shellbrook.
This comprehensive infrastructure investment reflects the Saskatchewan government's ongoing efforts to enhance transportation networks, which are vital for the economic development and connectivity of the province.
