Bridgit AI: Cultivating Creativity Through Hackathons

Bridgit celebrates the launch of Bridgit AI, highlighting the impact of internal hackathons on fostering innovation and creativity within the company.

In a significant milestone for Bridgit, the company has successfully launched Bridgit AI, receiving positive feedback from users who depend on the software daily. This new development aims to enhance the tools available for building project teams and securing work. Vincent Seguin, Bridgitโ€™s VP of Engineering, previously shared insights into the journey of becoming an AI-first company, detailing the technology and processes involved in bringing Bridgit AI to fruition. In this article, Seguin focuses on another critical aspect of the development journey: the role of product hackathons in fostering innovation.
The engineering sector often faces the challenge of maintaining a balance between consistent, predictable delivery and encouraging creativity and exploration. Bridgit addresses this challenge through the implementation of product hackathons, which are designed to inspire teams, break down silos, and generate fresh ideas. The company has found a successful approach to these events, which includes several key elements: holding hackathons three times a year, gathering ideas from across the organization to ensure inclusivity, forming collaborative teams two weeks before the event, and focusing on real-world impact through engaging demos.
The hackathons culminate in presentations where teams showcase their ideas, which are then voted on by their peers. This democratic process not only adds a fun competitive element but also ensures that the chosen projects resonate with the broader team. To maintain a light atmosphere, Bridgit offers prizes for winning teams and includes a fun physical challenge during the event.
Following each hackathon, a committee comprised of engineering and product leaders evaluates the projects and decides which ideas will advance into further development as part of Bridgit's product roadmap. The most recent hackathon, themed 'Reconstruct', took place in September and focused solely on artificial intelligence. The event encouraged participants to think beyond traditional methods and explore how AI can revolutionize workforce planning.
During the 48-hour hackathon, teams utilized a wide array of AI resources, including Cursor, Claude Code, and AWS Bedrock, to innovate and create. The results were impressive, with teams developing various projects that showcased their technical prowess and creativity. Notable projects included Bridgit MCP, which connects Claude Desktop to public APIs for workforce planning, AI-generated organizational charts, automated activity summaries, and an AI-driven project update tool that won the hackathon.
While not all projects will transition into production, the central goal of the hackathon was to foster creativity and experimentation. The success of 'Reconstruct' lies in its ability to encourage thinking outside the box and reimagining the future of construction technology through an AI lens. Bridgit looks forward to sharing which of these innovative ideas will be integrated into their product roadmap in the near future.
