The Town of Newmarket is actively engaged in clean-up operations after severe weather damaged over 200 trees on municipal property. Efforts are ongoing to assess and manage hazardous trees while assisting residents with private property concerns.
Following the severe weather experienced last Friday, July 3, 2026, in Newmarket, storm clean-up operations are still underway. The Town has reported that more than 200 trees on public property sustained damage, particularly in the area surrounding Yonge Street and Mulock Drive. Crews from the Town, alongside their contracted partners, have been diligently working throughout the weekend to assess the situation and clear fallen trees and branches from Town-owned land. As of now, all reported blockages on roadways have been successfully cleared, and teams are still addressing priority tree issues, especially in trails and other affected areas. The clean-up efforts, particularly in regions that suffered significant storm damage, are expected to continue throughout this week and into the following week. The Town expresses its gratitude to residents for their understanding and patience as they prioritize public safety, focusing on hazardous trees and limbs that may pose risks to public access.
For trees that have fallen on private property, homeowners are reminded that it is their responsibility to manage the situation. However, to assist them, the Town has implemented a provision allowing the removal of trees deemed hazardous without the need to apply for a private tree permit. To maintain a record of such removals, property owners are encouraged to notify the Town by emailing [email protected] with specific details, including the location and address of the hazardous tree, along with any photos documenting the situation.
Residents who wish to report any storm damage on municipal property, including fallen trees or branches in parks and trails, can do so by contacting the Town via email at [email protected] or by calling 905-895-5193 and selecting option 3 for after-hours assistance. The Town appreciates the community's cooperation as they work to ensure public safety and manage the ongoing storm clean-up efforts.
