Significant Progress at Yonge & Rich Condominiums as Topping Off Marks New Milestone

Construction at the Yonge & Rich Condominiums in Downtown Toronto has reached a pivotal stage, with the two connected towers having topped off at 156 metres. Developed by Great Gulf, the project features distinctive cladding and architectural designs that enhance its presence in the urban landscape.

After a five-month interval, updates from the Downtown Toronto construction site for the Yonge & Rich Condominiums, a project by developer Great Gulf, reveal significant advancements. This development is named after the intersection of Yonge Street and Richmond Street East, reflecting its urban context. The project, designed by architectsAlliance in collaboration with Graziani + Corazza Architects, has achieved a notable milestone, with its 46-storey twin towers now reaching their full height of 156 metres.
The completed structure consists of two interconnected tower volumes that are being treated with unique cladding to visually differentiate them. The northwest volume features a more straightforward design, incorporating white-tinted wraparound balcony guards. These guards conceal a minimalist window wall, which is adorned with white spandrel panels that cover vertical wall sections, contributing to a sleek aesthetic. Currently, the installation of cladding is underway for the final two residential floors, while the white underpainting of the balconies has been completed for several levels below.
Conversely, the southeast volume stands out with a distinctive aesthetic, characterized by a randomized geometric pattern reminiscent of a crossword puzzle. This design is achieved through a combination of clear glass balcony guards and perforated aluminum panels that are finished with a white powder coat, complemented by the same window wall finishes used on the northwest volume. As of now, the window wall finishes for the southeast tower have been installed up to just below the mechanical penthouse level, while the unique balcony design has ascended to about the mid-point of the structure.
At ground level, the podium features muted grey precast concrete and glazing along Richmond Street, intentionally designed to allow the more vibrant heritage walls of an adjacent building on Victoria and an integrated heritage frontage on Lombard Street to take precedence. In the coming weeks, additional finishes are expected to enhance the building’s interaction with the pedestrian environment. Moreover, the existing precast finishes will undergo a thorough cleaning to remove construction dust and debris, further refining the building's appearance as it nears completion.
