AECOM has been awarded a significant multi-year contract by Defence Construction Canada to provide architecture and engineering services, potentially valued at $270 million.
In a significant development for Canada’s defense infrastructure, AECOM has announced that it has secured the top position on Defence Construction Canada’s (DCC) National Architecture and Engineering (A&E) Source List. This multi-year program, which has a potential value of up to $270 million, will play a crucial role in assisting the Department of National Defence (DND) in delivering essential infrastructure across the country. The contract is structured as a three-year agreement, with two additional one-year options available, allowing for extended collaboration should the DND choose to exercise these options. AECOM will deliver a comprehensive range of multidisciplinary architecture and engineering services, covering the entire spectrum of planning, design, and construction-phase support necessary for the DND’s initiatives.
According to the release from AECOM, this source list represents the largest investment ever made by DCC in terms of total maximum estimated value, underscoring the importance of this initiative for Canada’s defense capabilities. The selection process for the source list was meticulously designed to ensure that DCC partners with firms that provide the best value, and AECOM’s top ranking is attributed to its outstanding performance across technical merit, cost, and specialized experience in defense-related projects.
The scope of work under this program is extensive and includes the construction of hangars, aircraft maintenance buildings, vehicle maintenance bays, high-security office complexes, accommodations, mess facilities, recreational amenities, and training facilities. Furthermore, AECOM will be tasked with providing strategic planning services, which will include long-term recapitalization plans and asset portfolio management, vital for maintaining the integrity and efficiency of defense infrastructure.
Richard Barrett, AECOM’s chief executive for the Canada region, expressed his commitment to the project, stating, “Across Canada, our local teams take deep pride in supporting the people and infrastructure that safeguard the nation.” He emphasized that as AECOM assists the DND in preparing for future challenges, the company will leverage its extensive architecture and engineering expertise, including advanced energy modeling, asset management, and innovative design solutions. This approach is aimed at delivering facilities that not only perform effectively but also endure over time, adhering to the highest standards of safety and technical excellence.
This announcement marks a pivotal moment for AECOM and the DND, reflecting a strategic partnership that aims to enhance Canada’s defense infrastructure in a comprehensive manner. The program is expected to have significant implications for the construction industry, particularly in the context of government contracts and defense-related projects, as it showcases the growing importance of infrastructure investment in national security and defense preparedness.
