Construction has officially commenced on De Havilland Field, the largest private aviation investment in Alberta's history, set to create thousands of jobs and enhance local manufacturing capabilities.
Construction has officially kicked off at De Havilland Field in Wheatland County, Alberta. This ambitious project is being hailed as the largest private aviation investment in the province's history. Spanning 1,500 acres, the new manufacturing hub is designed to host a range of facilities including an aircraft assembly plant, a runway, a parts manufacturing and distribution center, as well as a maintenance, repair, and overhaul (MRO) center.Once fully operational, De Havilland Field is expected to generate approximately 3,000 permanent jobs across various sectors such as skilled trades, engineering, manufacturing, and aviation services, as detailed in an official release. The scale of this development underscores its potential impact on the local economy and job market.
Additionally, the Alberta government has recently announced a significant order for five Canadair DHC-515 water bombers from De Havilland Canada, valued at $400 million. This order is one of several that will be fulfilled at the new manufacturing hub, further solidifying the facility's role in the province's aviation industry.
The construction of De Havilland Field also includes plans for the final assembly of notable aircraft models, including the DHC-6 Twin Otter and the Dash 8-400. These developments not only highlight the strategic importance of the site but also reflect a growing investment in Alberta's aerospace sector.
As the project progresses, stakeholders are optimistic about the ripple effects it may have on the local economy, workforce development, and the broader aviation market in Alberta. The establishment of such a comprehensive aviation manufacturing hub is poised to attract further investments and partnerships within the industry, marking a significant milestone for Alberta's economic landscape.
