Las Vegas Stadium Authority Allocates $75 Million for Upgrades to Allegiant Stadium

The Las Vegas Stadium Authority has approved a significant funding boost to enhance access to Allegiant Stadium, highlighting its importance as a community asset and a driver of tourism.
The Las Vegas Stadium Authority has recently sanctioned a $75 million allocation from public funds towards a substantial $158 million enhancement project aimed at improving access to the north entrance of Allegiant Stadium. This 65,000-seat venue, which opened its doors in 2020 at a staggering cost of $2 billion, will see the Las Vegas Raiders cover the remaining expenses associated with the upgrade.Steve Hill, the president and CEO of the Las Vegas Convention and Visitors Authority, emphasized the stadium's role as a vital community asset, particularly in times when increasing tourism is crucial for the local economy. "Allegiant Stadium is driving tourism right now more than ever at a time we need to drive tourism. We all know that tourism drives the economy. Keeping that stadium at its current level is a high priority for all of us," Hill stated. He also noted that maintaining the stadium is not only a legal obligation but also an important commitment to the community.
During the Stadium Authority meeting, Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan underlined the significance of enhancing access to the stadium's north side, which has been identified as a critical point for guest experience. "The north side of the building has become one of the more pressure points in the guest experience," Douglass Morgan remarked, indicating that the current infrastructure is under considerable strain. Many fans currently traverse a nearby bridge from the Las Vegas Strip to reach the stadium for Raiders games and other events.
The planned upgrades aim to create a more direct and accessible route to the venue, utilizing an elevated walkway that will streamline the experience for attendees. Construction is projected to commence following the conclusion of the Raiders’ season, with an ambitious target for completion by late 2028, ideally before the 2029 Super Bowl, which is also set to take place at Allegiant Stadium.
The allocated funds will be directed towards the addition of pedestrian and event decks, a plaza, and various transportation improvements. This public financial support will be sourced from surplus room tax revenues, a continuation of the public funding strategy that initially saw $750 million allocated for the stadium's construction. Hill clarified that the extra revenue cannot simply be redirected to reduce the room tax or pay down existing bonds due to legal and technical constraints.
"The Raiders now have the majority of cost-sharing in this project," Hill explained. "They will be responsible for the maintenance of that, and it frankly protects the $750 million public investment that has already been made. I think our responsibility is to make sure this commitment would leave the Stadium Authority in a solid financial position."
Beyond hosting Raiders games, Allegiant Stadium serves as the home for UNLV football, major concerts, and other sporting events. The stadium is set to host the Super Bowl in 2024, along with this season’s college football national championship game and the Final Four in 2028. Hill also pointed out that with five new stadiums being developed across the country, it is imperative for Allegiant Stadium to remain competitive.
With new venues emerging in locations such as Buffalo, New York, and anticipated developments in the Chicago area, Denver, Washington, D.C., and Nashville, Tennessee, Hill stressed the need for Allegiant Stadium to keep pace with its potential competitors. "They are going to look to compete for events we have been very fortunate to have here. While there is room for them to do some things and us to do some things, it will provide more options for those events," he said.
