On April 3, 2025, at approximately 4:30 a.m., Central York Fire Services (CYFS) received a call regarding a residential fire on Conover Avenue in Aurora. Firefighters were dispatched promptly to the scene, where they encountered residents who had evacuated the property and observed smoke and flames emanating from the garage area. Upon arrival, the first CYFS unit confirmed the situation and initiated firefighting operations by deploying an attack line to extinguish the flames in the garage.Fortunately, one of the garage bay doors was open, allowing fire crews to access the fire without the need for forcible entry, which facilitated a quicker response. The cause of the fire was later determined to be an electrical malfunction. Thankfully, there were no injuries reported from the incident.
In terms of community impact, the intersection of Conover Avenue and Brooks Avenue was temporarily closed to facilitate firefighting efforts; however, it has since been reopened to traffic. CYFS worked diligently to fully extinguish the fire, ensuring that no further damage occurred.
The response team from CYFS comprised six fire trucks, one incident commander, and one senior officer, totaling 25 personnel. This collaborative effort also involved support from York Regional Police, York Emergency Medical Services (EMS), and local utility companies, highlighting the integrated response strategy employed during emergencies.
In light of this incident, fire safety tips were reiterated, emphasizing the importance of exiting a building promptly in the event of a fire. Residents are encouraged to close doors behind them when exiting to help contain the fire and to gather at a designated safe location outside.
