Utility Crews Work to Restore Power Following Severe Thunderstorms in Ontario

Utility crews are engaged in efforts to restore electricity to thousands of residents in Ontario after severe thunderstorms caused extensive damage and power outages across the region.

HUNTSVILLE, ONT. — In the aftermath of powerful thunderstorms that swept through Ontario, utility crews are actively working to restore power to thousands of residents left in the dark. As of 8:30 a.m., Hydro One reported that approximately 2,700 customers in southwestern Ontario were without electricity, following the severe storm that struck the area. Additionally, about 3,000 customers in central Ontario faced similar outages due to the storm's impact, which was notably concentrated on Monday. The storms have prompted storm researchers to deploy teams to London and Huntsville to investigate reports of tornado activity and high winds that were observed during the weather events. The Northern Tornadoes Project, based at Western University, is currently assessing the situation but has stated that no tornadoes have been confirmed as of yet. In a tragic incident linked to the storm, local police in Huntsville reported that a 19-year-old man lost his life after being struck by a tree that fell during the severe weather. This incident underscores the dangers posed by such extreme weather conditions, which have become increasingly frequent. As recovery efforts continue, crews are faced with the challenge of addressing widespread damage and restoring services to affected communities.
