Amrize Breaks Ground on Advanced Cement Plant Modernization in Saint-Constant
📅 Today
Amrize has initiated a significant modernization project at its cement plant in Saint-Constant, Quebec, aimed at enhancing production efficiency and sustainability.
In a significant development for the construction materials industry, Amrize has officially commenced the modernization of its cement plant located just outside Montreal, in Saint-Constant, Quebec. This initiative aims to transform the facility into the most advanced and sustainable cement production site in Eastern Canada. The improvements outlined in the company’s release include the integration of high-efficiency equipment designed to enhance production processes, energy efficiency, storage capabilities, and logistics operations. One of the key environmental goals of this modernization project is to achieve a reduction in the plant's net carbon footprint by over 40 percent by the year 2035. This initiative positions Amrize to offer the lowest carbon emissions per tonne of cement produced in Eastern Canada, aligning with broader sustainability goals within the construction sector.
Furthermore, the project will expand the plant’s production capacity significantly, increasing it by 300,000 tonnes to a total annual output of 1.2 million tonnes. This expansion is expected to create additional employment opportunities, with a projected 25 percent increase in the workforce at the plant.
Amrize's commitment to local production is also noteworthy, as the company plans to provide “Manufactured in Québec” cement. This approach ensures that all production processes, from sourcing raw materials to final manufacturing, are conducted within the province, thereby supporting local jobs and communities.
Jaime Hill, president of Amrize Building Materials, emphasized the importance of this investment, stating, "Our investment in Québec will modernize our cement plant into the most advanced and sustainable plant in Eastern Canada. As the Canadian and Québec governments invest to shape the future of the province, this modernization ensures that it is built with reliable, local, and highly efficient cement. We are proud to support Québec’s jobs, economy, communities, and infrastructure for decades to come."
This project reflects ongoing trends in the construction industry towards sustainability and efficiency, as companies increasingly seek to reduce their environmental impact while meeting growing demand for construction materials. The modernization of the Saint-Constant plant is not only a significant milestone for Amrize but also a pivotal development for the cement industry in Eastern Canada, potentially influencing market dynamics and setting new standards for sustainability in cement production.
