L’Amoreaux Kidstown Waterpark Reopens with Major Upgrades in Scarborough

The City of Toronto has officially reopened the L’Amoreaux Kidstown Waterpark, featuring significant renovations and enhancements designed to improve recreational space for families.

The City of Toronto has marked the reopening of L’Amoreaux Kidstown Waterpark, a facility that has served families in Scarborough since its inception in 1988. This public water park, the only one owned and managed by the city, has undergone extensive renovations to enhance its offerings and provide a more enjoyable experience for visitors. The renovations have introduced a redesigned park layout which includes a new outdoor pool equipped with two water slides, as well as a wading pool that features an accessible ramp, making it more inclusive for children of all abilities.
In addition to the new pools, the revitalized Kidstown Waterpark boasts several new amenities aimed at improving visitor comfort and enjoyment. These include added shade structures, poolside lounge seating, and picnic tables that invite families to spend a full day enjoying the park. The design also incorporates cognitive play areas and large splash pads that cater to various age groups, ensuring that children can engage in safe and fun water play.
A key aspect of the renovation is the incorporation of Indigenous placekeeping features, which reflect the history and traditions of the Huron-Wendat community. Artist Catherine Tammaro has designed several elements that pay homage to this heritage, including clan animal sculptures, shade structures adorned with clan patterns, and a sunflower graphic. Additionally, the park features a beaver paving motif, custom arrowhead graphic panels on the fencing, and a waterfall that serves as both a visual centerpiece and a functional element of the waterpark.
The park's new facilities also include an expanded building that houses washrooms and changing rooms, addressing a long-standing need for improved visitor amenities. With these upgrades, the City of Toronto is committed to providing a recreational space that is not only fun but also respectful of the local Indigenous culture and community.
The reopening of L’Amoreaux Kidstown Waterpark signifies a significant investment in public infrastructure and recreational amenities within Scarborough. As families flock to the park for summer fun, the renovations are expected to enhance the overall community engagement and provide a safe environment for children and families alike. This project, which carries a budget of $19 million, represents a strategic effort by the city to revitalize public spaces and encourage outdoor activities among residents.
As the summer season approaches, the City of Toronto invites families to visit the newly renovated L’Amoreaux Kidstown Waterpark, where they can enjoy a modernized facility that blends recreational enjoyment with cultural appreciation. The park is located at 3159 Birchmount Rd, Scarborough, Ontario, and is anticipated to become a central hub for summer activities once again, just as it has for decades.
