Hydro One Seeks Approval for Orléans Area Reinforcement Project

Hydro One Networks Inc. has applied to the Ontario Energy Board for the construction of a major transmission line project in the Greater Ottawa Area, expected to enhance regional power capacity by 2029.

Hydro One Networks Inc. has officially submitted a leave-to-construct application to the Ontario Energy Board (OEB) for the Orléans Area Reinforcement Project. This significant endeavor aims to establish an 11-kilometre, 115-kilovolt (kV) transmission line that will operate within an existing transmission corridor stretching between the Hawthorne Transformer Station (TS) and the Orléans TS, both located in the Greater Ottawa Area. The initiative also entails upgrading an existing 115-kV transmission line between these two stations to a higher capacity of 230-kV.
The investment for this project is pegged at approximately $100 million, a figure that underscores Hydro One's commitment to enhancing the electrical infrastructure in the region. This upgrade is anticipated to increase capacity, improve the regional transfer capability of the electrical system, and ultimately strengthen reliability for consumers. The project is expected to be completed and in service by the year 2029.
Under the Ontario Energy Board Act of 1998, electricity transmitters in Ontario are mandated to file a leave-to-construct application to receive approval from the OEB before undertaking any construction, expansion, or reinforcement of the transmission system. This application submitted by Hydro One includes comprehensive details regarding the project's route, design specifications, anticipated timelines, and associated costs.
As the application progresses through the OEB approval process, stakeholders and the community are encouraged to stay informed through the project’s dedicated webpage, which will provide updates and further information as it becomes available.
