Construction Underway for New Integrated Health Centre in Vanderhoof, B.C.

Construction has commenced on a new integrated primary and community care centre in Vanderhoof, B.C., with an anticipated cost of $35.8 million, funded by provincial and regional health authorities.

VANDERHOOF, B.C. – Construction has officially commenced on a new integrated primary and community care centre located adjacent to St. John Hospital in Vanderhoof. This facility is set to replace the existing Omineca Medical Clinic and aims to enhance healthcare services in the region. The new centre is designed to offer increased space, improved layout, better accessibility, and enhanced patient privacy. Strategically situated on the hospital campus, it will facilitate the provision of primary health-care services, allowing for quicker and more efficient access to team-based care.
The total projected cost for the development of this new healthcare facility is estimated at $35.8 million. Funding for the project is a collaborative effort, with the Province of British Columbia contributing through Northern Health and the Stuart-Nechako Regional Hospital District. The regional district is allocating $7.2 million towards the project, while the provincial government is providing the remaining $28.6 million.
Once operational in 2028, the new care centre is expected to serve approximately 9,000 residents, with the capacity to accommodate up to 11,000 individuals. The design of the facility promotes co-location of healthcare professionals, including physicians and nurse practitioners from various teams and facilities. This integration is aimed at ensuring that residents of Vanderhoof as well as those from surrounding northern and rural communities can access necessary healthcare services more effectively.
The project represents a significant investment in the health infrastructure of the region, reflecting a commitment to improving public health outcomes and access to care. The anticipated completion date for the integrated health centre is set for June 18, 2026, marking a pivotal development in the community's healthcare landscape.
