Cadence Launches Market Engagement for Canada’s High-Speed Rail Project
📅 Today
Cadence initiates a market engagement process for the VIA Rail Canada High Frequency Rail Project, inviting potential partners for the first phase of construction between Ottawa and Montreal.
In Toronto, the partnership between the Crown corporation Alto and Cadence has taken a significant step forward as Cadence announces the launch of a market engagement process for Canada’s high-speed rail network, specifically the VIA Rail Canada High Frequency Rail Project (HFR). This initiative aims to outline proposed early procurement activities, anticipated work packages, and timelines for the initial phase of construction that will connect Ottawa and Montreal. The engagement process allows for the identification of potential partners who will be instrumental in the design, construction, and supply of various components of the future rail network. According to a release from Cadence, interested parties, both local and international, are encouraged to participate in upcoming information sessions scheduled for July in Toronto, Ottawa, and Montreal. These sessions will provide a platform for businesses to learn more about the procurement process for this ambitious project.
Following the information sessions, Cadence will issue expressions of interest, inviting companies to formally express their interest in delivering significant components of the project. The consortium comprises several notable organizations, including CDPQ Infra, AtkinsRéalis, SYSTRA Canada, Keolis Canada, SNCF Voyageurs, and Air Canada, all of which will contribute their technical and commercial expertise to assist in achieving key project milestones and to guide the Government of Canada’s final investment decision.
The proposed high-speed rail network is designed to accommodate 72 trains daily, operating on dedicated electric tracks at speeds exceeding 300 kilometers per hour. This market engagement process is crucial for preparing the industry for participation in the formal procurement phases expected to commence in 2026, with ongoing activities projected into 2027 and beyond.
The development of this high-speed rail network is part of a broader push towards enhancing transportation infrastructure in Canada, aiming to improve connectivity and reduce travel times between major cities. As the project progresses, it is anticipated that it will lead to significant economic opportunities and advancements in sustainable transportation solutions across the region.
