Mississauga Commences Over $170 Million in Transportation and Stormwater Projects

Mississauga is set to invest over $170 million in various transportation and stormwater projects this construction season, with over 30 new initiatives and seven ongoing projects aimed at enhancing infrastructure and flood protection.

MISSISSAUGA, ONT. – This construction season, the City of Mississauga is preparing to invest more than $170 million into its transportation and stormwater management systems. City crews are currently engaged in over 30 new projects alongside seven ongoing projects from previous years, as part of a comprehensive effort to improve local infrastructure. The initiatives include extensive repairs and maintenance of existing roads, bridges, and trails, as well as restoration efforts for creeks and stormwater ponds, according to a recent city release.
Among the new projects slated to begin this year is the construction of a new pumping station, the installation of traffic signals, and the development of cycle paths throughout the city. Significant projects in the pipeline include the upgrading of traffic signals at the intersection of Confederation Parkway and Square One Drive, as well as the addition of a left turn lane and new signals at an intersection on Winston Churchill Boulevard, which will also undergo general repairs.
Further infrastructure improvements will see the repair of the Aquitaine Avenue pedestrian bridge and retaining wall. In addition, new multi-use paths and boulevard cycle tracks are planned at several locations across Mississauga, enhancing connectivity for cyclists and pedestrians. The city is also undertaking sidewalk repairs and will be adding tactile plates at intersections to improve accessibility.
Flood protection is a key focus this season, with projects aimed at maintaining systems that manage rainwater and addressing areas of soil erosion. This includes the construction of a new pumping station on Osprey Boulevard and dredging efforts to restore ponds at various sites, including Dixie and Tomken Transitway, Osprey Marsh, Silken Laumann, and the Britannia Road and Central Parkway Station areas. Erosion repair work will be conducted along Cooksville, Credit River, Etobicoke, Mimico, and Sawmill creeks, alongside bridge repairs at Burnhamthorpe West over Mullet Creek.
Looking ahead, a major road widening project is set to commence in 2026 on Ninth Line, where the road will be expanded to four lanes, complemented by the addition of new sidewalks, drainage systems, and bike lanes. Furthermore, the city has outlined its road resurfacing program for the year, which includes replacing asphalt and repairing curbs and sidewalks where necessary. A total of 38 roads are scheduled for resurfacing, amounting to nearly 21 kilometres of roadway enhancements.
